Chipseal Surfaces
Chipseal is a Pavement Preservation method that employs the use of liquid asphalt binder with a coating of small angular stone. It is an ideal method for reducing oxidation (deterioration over time), provides a new wearing course, increasing traction and improved appearance of the pavement. The asphalt binder is typically an asphalt emulsion based material, a non-hazardous petroleum based product, that adhears to the existing pavement and the newly laid stone. Other commonly used Asphalt Binders include:
The most common type of aggregate that is used today is a 3/8" Double Washed Traprock stone, the same that is used in "blacktop". The angular surfaces of this material is ideal to adhearing to the asphalt emulsion and provides superior wearing resistance. In additon, the Double-Washed nature reduces dust as the stone dries. Comer Contracting aslo recommends the use of Pre-Treated Stone, stone coated with a thin film of asphalt binder that eliminates nearly all dust and increases initial stone adhearance.
Comer Contracting's state-of-the-art equipment applies these materials in the most material effecient and time effective manner, nearly eliminating waste through the use of computer-rate controlled Asphalt Distributors and Stone Spreaders.
